Edible Oils: Technical Overview and Practical Application
Food-grade oils play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of production processes in the food and pharmaceutical industries. These products are designed to minimize the risks of contamination of manufactured products and ensure reliable operation of the equipment.
Classification and Standards
The NSF International classification of edible oils includes three main categories: H1, H2, and 3H. Each category determines the level of permissible oil contact with manufactured food products and the requirements for its composition and use.
NSF H1 food grade oil;(partial contact with food is possible)
H1 category oils are intended for use in areas and on equipment where accidental contact with food is technically unavoidable. The proportion of possible oil ingress should not exceed 10 parts per million (ppm) to the product being produced.Application
These oils are used in various types of equipment, including pumps, gearboxes, compressors, conveyor belts, mixers, as well as in the processes of canning, mixing, cooking, cutting, slicing, cleaning, processing, bottling and brewing.
NSF H2 food grade oils - oils for equipment not in contact with food
H2 category oils are used in machines and equipment where contact with food is completely excluded, most often these are auxiliary equipment, and are often used in industrial environments where equipment, such as forklifts or other vehicles, operates outside food production or processing areas.
Although edible H2 oils are not intended for contact with products, they must comply with strict toxicological parameters and do not contain carcinogens, mutagens, teratogens, mineral acids or intentionally added heavy metals such as antimony, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury or selenium. The percentage of use of oils with NSF H2 food tolerance is 0.2% of total consumption, therefore, these products are not in our product lines.
NSF 3H food grade oils;(direct contact is possible)
H3 oils are "edible oils" that can be safely consumed. They are used to clean and prevent rust on equipment that comes into contact with food.
These oils are used to lubricate and protect equipment such as hooks, conveyor belts and trolleys, knives, which are in direct contact with food.
These oils are usually made from vegetable oils (for example, corn, sunflower, soy or cotton) and must comply with FDA regulations 21 CFR 172.860 and 172.878. They are considered safe (GRAS) and biodegradable.
Our line also contains these oils, their list can be found in this section: NSF 3H food grade oilsThe choice of the appropriate type of oil depends on the specifics of the production process, safety requirements and the possibility of contact with food products. When choosing an oil with a food tolerance, it is important to pay attention to its classification and compliance with international standards and certifications to ensure the safety and efficiency of production processes, if you have any doubts, contact our specialists, we will offer the best solution for your production.
NSF International standards
NSF International plays a key role in regulating products intended for use in the food industry, setting strict safety and quality requirements. This organization is engaged in the registration of products that comply with international safety standards, including lubricants and oils with food tolerance. All products that have received NSF approvals are published on an international website where consumers and industry professionals can familiarize themselves with the relevant certificates. Our company is a leader in the production of Edible Oils in Russia
We are proud that our brand LIKSOLis a recognized leader in the Russian market in the production of lubricants and oils with food tolerances. Our leadership is confirmed not only by the high quality of our products and strict compliance with international safety standards, but also by the registration of our products in the NSF International system.
